Corporate Overview

Since 1927, General American Investors Company has employed fundamental security analysis in managing our portfolio of investments with the objective of long-term capital appreciation. The Company is a closed-end fund whose common and preferred shares are listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
Investment Policy

The primary investment objective of the Company is long-term capital appreciation with lesser emphasis on current income. We focus on equity securities with growth potential at reasonable valuations.

For each of the eight year periods ended December 31, 2000-2007, General American's Net Asset Value performance (with dividends reinvested) earned a Performance Achievement Certificate from Lipper, Inc., outperforming the other closed-end core funds followed by Lipper. Past performance does not guarantee future results.

Lipper, Inc. is a globally recognized organization that ranks the performance of mutual funds. The fund is ranked based on total return, as calculated by Lipper, Inc. Each fund is ranked within a universe of funds similar in investment objective.
